I Have A Confession To Make...

Yesterday I had my son run into the store and purchase a Cherry Coke for me.  When we got home, I opened it like normal and some of it fizzled up almost spilling out of the top.  And then it hit me....

I confessed to my husband, (with some giggles of course), of the times my sister and I would be demanded to go to the store and get a Pepsi for our mom.  If anyone KNEW my mom when I was a kid, they would know she LOVED her Pepsi!  Back then when they came out of a cold machine, they were canned not bottled. OMGoodness am I old??

Now, my mom would call us on our cell phones....GOTCHA, you know there were no such things back then.  She would call out our names from out of the window and no matter what we were doing, swimming, hide-n-go-seek, roller skating, red rover, double dutch, etc., we would come running (or else)!

Because we were always into the best part of whatever we were playing,
we would NOT be happy to hear the call.
But as any smart kid would do, we went to the store as we were told for her beloved Pepsi.

Here's the part where I must confess... After we purchased her Pepsi, I'll say "I", (don't wanna implicate my sister who is 6 years older than me and should have known better), would shake, shake and shake some more that cold can of Pepsi!  I think I remember even tossing it to the ground a few times picking it back up and shaking it some more.  Don't judge me, you know you stuck out your tongue to your mother when she wasn't looking!

We would run into the house, drop off the Pepsi, give her all of the change of course, then off we went.  As we ran out giggling, I can still hear my mom say $%#@!& Shannon!!

What??  I promise I'm a good girl now!!

Happy Birthday!

July 24th marked 36 years for me!  It was a fantastic day!  Flowers, cards, dinners, a movie, and countless Caribou Coffee gift cards, just to name a few....and even more love!  I know I say this a lot, but I am truly blessed.  Birthdays at the Edwards Home are a BIG deal!  I grew up with a mom that put her everything into celebrating me and my sister.  And of course I have transfered that same philosophy.  Any reason to celebrate is my life motto.  It's all good and all fun, just another reminder of all of the love you surround yourself with.  Many many thanks to my family & friends for making my day so sweet!

Never Too Busy, Never Too Old

Our school year has been off and running.  Cheerleading, Football Games, Homework, Band Practice, just to name a few.  Needless to say our schedules are tight as usual around the Edwards' Household.  After having some great family meetings and good communication with Jason, we both felt we needed to make time to spend with each of the kids seperately.  So this weekend was to be my night with Jayson.  I decided that Friday night while dad was away at the high school football game watching Bre cheer, I would enjoy an evening with my boy.  I told him that morning that we were going on a "date".  He gave me a little grin which let me know he was "ok" with hanging out with mom.

We first went to shop...nothing will make a date go better with a 13 year old than first buying him something.  Then it was off to the bowling alley where we ate at the pizzeria.  Something about stuffing a boy full of pizza can really get them talking.  We had an amazing and ensightful conversation.  Of course the usual, "how's school talk", but the talk just kept getting deeper.  He shared his heart with mom and I shared some mom wisdom and then it was off to bowl.

We played two games and the best part of it was that everytime I turned around from my turn, he was standing right there, smiling with both hands up to give me high 5's!  He was actually having fun!  So much so, that he wanted to go to a movie afterward.  Does it get any better than that???

I guess whatever needed to be accomplished that night was, and it just reminded me that I am never too busy to hang with my boy and he is never too old to go on a date with mom.
